Design method for the ‘impression pile’

چکیده
Urban development in congested cities requires a better exploitation of the available surface, leading to taller structures. These buildings are usually founded on piles that have be increased dimension accommodate larger loads, resulting increases both cost and carbon dioxide footprint pile foundation. An alternative option is improve performance by enhancing shaft capacity, which commonly most important factor determining ultimate capacity constructed clay soil subjected axial load. For stiff clays such as London Clay, soil–pile friction may profiling side walls bored cast situ with small discrete ‘impressions’ latter form nodules concreted pile. Centrifuge tests carried out at City, University London, field trials undertaken Keltbray Piling across different sites showed an increase around 40%. In this work, simple design method based experimental evidence existing plastic failure mechanism was derived for ‘impression’ piles. The proposed shows good agreement data enables direct prediction future designs.

investigating the feasibility of a proposed model for geometric design of deployable arch structures
deployable scissor type structures are composed of the so-called scissor-like elements (sles), which are connected to each other at an intermediate point through a pivotal connection and allow them to be folded into a compact bundle for storage or transport. several sles are connected to each other in order to form units with regular polygonal plan views. the sides and radii of the polygons are...

Nanoindentation morphologies of crystalline copper have been probed at the grain scale. Experimental tests have been conducted on nanocrystalline (NC), ultrafine-grained (UFG), and coarse-grained (CG) copper samples with a new Berkvoich indenter at the strain rate of 0.04/s without holding time at an indentation depth of 2000 nm at room temperature. As the grain size increases, the height of th...
متن کاملInterpretation of static pile loading test results and application for design of pile groups
Recent major bridge projects in the Greater Vancouver Area showcase the experience of local geotechnical engineers. Large static pile loading tests have been carried out on a number of these projects including the Pitt River Bridge, Golden Ears Bridge and Port Mann Bridge projects. This paper briefly discusses different analytical approaches to load test interpretation and reviews the approach ...
متن کاملImplementation Procedures for the Risk in Early Design (RED) Method
Risk assessments performed at the conceptual design phase of a product may offer the greatest opportunity to increase product safety and reliability at the least cost. This is an especially difficult proposition, however, as often the product has not assumed a physical form at this early design stage. This paper introduces the Risk in Early Design (RED) method, a method for performing risk asse...
